BIOGRAPHY

Where Detroit Meets the Italian Underground

Mattia Trani is one of the most recognised and respected figures in the international techno scene, and a leading name in today's hard techno movement. Born into a musical family, he began his journey studying piano as a child before turning his focus entirely to DJing and music production. His obsessive research into analogue instrumentation — drum machines, samplers and keyboard synthesizers — led him to forge a sound that is unmistakably his own: high-quality techno that moves between warehouse and rave energy, acid influences and drum'n'bass-driven rhythms.

In 2012 he founded his own label, Pushmaster Discs, quickly scoring collaborations with international legends including Ben Sims, Juan Atkins, Ken Ishii and DJ Stingray. The label became more than a personal outlet — it grew into a focused artistic universe that helped position Mattia firmly on the global map. His connection to Detroit runs particularly deep: he became the first Italian DJ to record a mix for Underground Resistance's online radio station — a privilege that speaks volumes about the respect he commands among the genre's founding fathers. His work has earned the support of Jeff Mills, Derrick May, Laurent Garnier, Dave Clarke and Ben Klock, as well as Nina Kraviz and Amelie Lens, both self-proclaimed admirers of his output.

His discography is a testament to relentless creative ambition. His 2020 track "Quasistar" was selected and released by Nina Kraviz on Trip Recordings, and in 2021 he released his second album "Scenery" — a 15-track triple vinyl box spanning hardgroove, rave, nu-techno and jungle/DnB. The follow-up remix album drew contributions from Robert Hood, Luke Slater, Marcel Dettmann, Ken Ishii and Indira Paganotto, among others. More recently, his collaboration with T78 on "Merit" reached #1 on Beatport's Hard Techno Top 100, and he has also released on Dax J's prestigious Monnom Black label.

Today, Mattia performs extensively across Europe and Asia, holding long-standing residencies at Galactica Festival — where he also serves as A&R for the festival's label — and at the iconic Cocoricò, a role he has maintained for over ten years.

With a career built on uncompromising artistic vision, deep roots in Detroit's founding spirit and an ever-evolving sound, Mattia Trani continues to push the boundaries of what techno can be — one record at a time.
