Born in Curitiba, in the southern state of Paraná, Brazil, Joanna Coelho discovered her passion for electronic music at an early age. By 17, she had already graduated from the International Academy of Electronic Music (AIMEC) in her hometown, marking the beginning of a journey that would take her far beyond Brazilian borders. In 2006, she relocated to São Paulo — Brazil's cultural powerhouse — where she found her true home in hard techno. Those years sharpened her identity as an artist and deepened her connection to the dancefloor.
In 2011, Joanna moved to the Netherlands, where she earned a Master's degree in Media Technology at Leiden University and completed the Electronic Music Production Course at SAE Rotterdam. From that point on, she channelled her academic rigour into her artistry — not just as a performer, but as a fully-fledged producer with a distinct and uncompromising sound.
Her productions have earned support from some of the most respected names in the scene, including Amelie Lens, Shlømo, 999999999, Scot Project, DAX J, Alex Di Stefano, N.O.B.A, Anela and Paul Cook, among others. Her discography spans releases on labels such as Sonaxx Records, Warind Records, Influence Records, Affenkafig Records, Lab Theory and SerialKillaz Records, with collaborations alongside artists like Alex TB, Jeff Mills and Sven Väth.
On stage, Joanna has built a reputation as a commanding and deeply present performer. From warehouse parties to major festivals, she weaves local influences and her roots in 90s and 2000s rave, hip hop and pop culture into every set — creating experiences that feel both raw and timeless. She has headlined festivals and clubs across Portugal, Spain, Germany, Austria, France, Slovenia, Croatia, Colombia, Argentina and beyond — including appearances at Sound Waves Festival and Awakenings Festival.
Currently based in Spain, Joanna Coelho continues to push forward with relentless energy and creative ambition. With new EPs, international bookings and a growing presence across Europe and Latin America, she is writing her name firmly into the history of hard techno — one dancefloor at a time.
